There are largely three types of farm you can run in Farming Simulator 23 - do you want to focus on crops, trees, or animals?

When people think of farming they think about planting edible crops such as eggplants and wheat. The truth is you don't have to limit yourself to just vegetables and grains. In Farming Simulator 23, you can decide your own career path.

You don't have to stick to traditional farming methods. You can pick different routes for how you want to earn money and spend your time managing. Maybe you want to master them all and challenge yourself to get the biggest, most profitable production facility out there.

Agriculture is the easier field of work to dive into, which makes sense as it is called Farming Simulator, after all, and your starting equipment and land tailors well towards crop farming. You only start off with three ready machines, but more are required to heighten your work.

You will need fertilizer and a Sprayer to begin your journey.

For example, cotton needs a specific machine to be harvested - no other header or harvester machine will work. Cotton, olives, grapes, and sugar beets all need crop-specific machinery. The main things you will want to work towards are getting all the necessary machines for seasonal crops and being able to tend to your fields in between harvests through fertilizing and spraying.

It is a big change and a big price point to switch to forestry, but all you need are three expensive machines. Once you have the three machines, tree production is simple. You can't get started in forestry until you have every machine, so there is no point in only buying one.

The Cobra will cut down trees, but that is pointless unless you are able to actually transport the logs so you can sell them or store them. Cutting all these logs and selling them is pointless unless you have the SF900 which grinds down tree stumps. The importance of grinding down tree stumps is that new trees will grow in their place.

New trees cannot grow unless you have gotten rid of any remaining stumps. You don't need tree seeds to plant or any other materials to continue tree production. After you have these three machines, you just cut, transport, grind, and repeat.

Starting out, you will get three chickens. These chickens are not mature and won't produce eggs for a while. You can go ahead and purchase some mature chickens or make a complete shift, dedicating all your time to animals.

With animals, you will be able to produce dairy products for sale as another means of acquiring money. Cows and pigs can produce manure which can then be used to fertilize your crops efficiently. Tending to animals may be more your style than riding machines over grass all day.

The easiest animals to take care of are chickens, sheep, and cows because they require less maintenance and no special feeding. All you have to do is feed them hay and collect their produce.

The hardest animals to take care of that will end up costing you a lot to maintain are pigs and horses. Pigs need multiple different foods that you must grow yourself, in order to stay healthy. They need a lot of upkeep in terms of food and only produce manure, which cows also produce.

Horses don't produce material but instead are meant to be bred and sold. For a horse to be viable for sale, it has to be trained well and in great physical shape, meaning you have to ride your horses every day. This can be a lot of work. If you want to take on Animal Husbandry over the other types of farming, taking on pigs and horses is worth it.

You get a lot of starter equipment for farming, but not for Animal Husbandry or Forestry work. Getting money saved up is important if you want to make some changes. Barns, and other lots, are available for purchase on the map already. You just have to walk or drive to the barn just across the street and pay $254,000.

You will have to purchase lots made for animals such as the barn. You will also need to get machines such as Balers and a forklift. Balers turn grass and hay into bales which can then be transported to animal pens for food. A forklift or any pallet handler machine will allow you to collect produce such as eggs, and send them off to a seller.
